For Oliver Stone, There Is No Democracy In America Even With Obama

Added: (Mon Nov 21 2011)

Pressbox (Press Release) - ALGIERS - U.S. filmmaker Oliver Stone said in Algiers, while participating in the Algiers Film Festival that the United States do not live in democracy, even under President Barack Obama, elected in 2008, denounced the Wall Street, the U.S. war attitude and indifference of their countrymen to the rest of the world.

In a press conference in French interspersed with some English expressions, Stone held that the "outraged" Americans who speak out against Wall Street should rather move their protest against high finance "to Washington and not New York, for greater impact. "

Thus the pressure on politicians to clean up the financial system will be "effective," said the director of "Wall Street" (1987) and "Wall Street, money never sleeps" (2010).

This son of a former financial trader on Wall Street and a French mother was a guest of amateur cinema festival in Algiers. He said he was "shocked to see how money is revered by Americans" for the effects of the crisis.

"The middle class (Americans) is the first victim and nobody can do nothing to change the system whom he calls a "non-democratic, even after the arrival of Obama."

Filmmaker denounced "30 years of lies." Americans lived with the idea that "communism is going to dominate the world", when it collapsed in 1989.

Asked about U.S. support for Israel, Stone said that "you can not talk about it in the United States. There is such power, money, the press and the lobby is such that the facts, the truth is hidden," he said.

Stone, 65, judge harshly his countrymen. "Americans are not so interested in foreign issues," he said. "They have no empathy for them," he added.
