Books For The Brits!
Added: (Wed Oct 24 2001)
The BOOKS FOR THE BRITS! campaign -to provide free reading material for
British Forces personal serving overseas during the current crisis-
continues to gather pace.
Speaking this morning, campaign organiser Dougie Brimson announced that not only had yesterday (23 Oct) seen the first delivery of some 300 books to
the Ministry of Defence but that yet another publisher has made a
contribution. MACMILLAN have joined Harper Collins, Transworld, Random
House, Penguin, Mainstream and BookData in taking the number of books
raised even closer to the 40,000 mark!
Equally importantly, as the media begin to give the campaign some much
needed mad deserved coverage, there have been significant developments in
other key areas. For example, Heathrow based ACTIVAIR -a major freight
forwarder to the publishing industry- have offered advice and help with
distribution whilst there has also been talk of a similar venture for US
troops. Other developments will be announced as and when they are
confirmed.
A delighted Dougie is quoted as saying 'this is all great news for the team here and I'm confident that the campaign will continue to grow simply
because it's a great idea. Indeed, I've been astonished at how many ex-servicemen and women have contacted me to tell me just that! However, we're still no nearer finding a sponsor and that is slightly disappointing. I think that the project is a good marketing opportunity for someone and long-term, it has great potential. That said, our short-term aim remains the same and we'll keep going for as long as we feel it's needed'.
