Books For The Brits!

Added: (Wed Oct 10 2001)

British author Dougie Brimson has hit on a 'novel' way of boosting the
morale of British forces involved in the current military and humanitarian
crisis.

Under the banner BOOKS FOR THE BRITS! the former Royal Air Force
Sergeant -a veteran of the Falklands War- has been busily trawling the
publishing world for copies of books to send out to the troops in the hope
that they will provide a welcome distraction during off-duty hours.

Speaking this afternoon, Dougie said 'when you're involved in any kind of
military operation, the off-duty hours are often the worst simply because
there is nothing to occupy the mind. Hopefully, reading will solve that
problem as well as providing a bit of escapism from what is clearly a
worrying time'.

The aim is to obtain at least one book for every British serviceman and
woman involved and despite only having begun work today (Wednesday 10 Oct)
and with the Frankfurt Book Fair currently underway, a number of major
publishers have already pledged support. However, Dougie has no doubt that
others will come in once word spreads and is also hopeful of obtaining
sponsorship to cover the transport costs involved. Any interested parties
can contact him via booksforthebrits@brimson.net
