An invitation to Sir Alan Sugars new protege

Added: (Tue May 16 2006)

Pressbox (Press Release) - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Congratulations to ice-cool Michelle Dewberry on her success in the recent final of Alan Sugars reality TV program "The Apprentice" on BBC2. Her reward - to launch a new business for Sir Alan called Xenon Green in which to go up against and compete directly with the many registered charities and social enterprises already struggling in the "green" business of computer refurbishment and recycling. And I thought Sir Alan promoted entrepreneurship in the UK.

However, we would like to extend an invitation to Michelle to visit our award winning, not-for-profit refurbishment facility at AIREDALE COMPUTER RECYCLING in Airedale, Castleford, West Yorkshire, (not too far away from her roots in Hull), where she will gain an invaluable insight to the work already going on in this sector and meet some of the network of computer recyclers across the North of England.

We have hosted several visits from around the world for enterprises starting out in computer recycling and would be happy to welcome Michelle to our industry. She might just be what's needed.

EDITORS NOTES:
Airedale Computer Recycling is an award winning, innovative social enterprise which featured on the BBC Breakfast News two years ago in answer to the United Nations call to recycle computers. We form part of a registered charity and all our surplus profits go to help this charity in its work providing an alternative education to dissafected young people.

We supply computers free of charge to local community activities, charities and childrens groups and we offer low cost (£39) computers to the general public from our showroom at The Active Centre - social Enterprise Park in Airedale, Castleford.

We take on long-term unemployed people on a voluntary basis and train them to be technicians and help them find jobs in the industry
We provide many work placements throughout the year for local schools.

We are ICER (Industry Council for Electronics Recycling) accredited and we are an Authorised Microsoft Refurbisher. We also chair the Regional Electronics Initiative (REI), a network of not-for-profit computer refurbishers across the North of England.

We ran workshops on starting in WEEE (Waste Electronics and Electrical Equipment) at last years national Recycling Conference for CRN (Community Recycling Network) and we provided one of the main speakers on WEEE at the WasteWorld Conference in December.

Our research into computer recycling over four years ago took us all over the UK and as far away as New York and Massachucettes.
