Hodder Education to launch multi-media publishing first
GET A LIFE! IS FIRST WITH SMS TEXT MESSAGING
Hodder Education, the leading publisher, is breaking new ground with a series of self-help books that keep readers motivated and engaged with integrated text messages (SMS) from the authors. The text-messaging is being managed by Telecom Express, leading provider of interactive marketing services to the media and publishing industry.
These motivational self-help books written by top lifestyle gurus will inspire readers wanting to make radical improvements to their health, looks, relaxation and love lives. The series is primarily aimed at women anywhere between 20 and 50 years old.
Each book is written by a well-known lifestyle guru, famed for their expert knowledge and experience in their field. Each book comprises a 100-day course for the reader to achieve their goal of a healthy body, sparkling self-image, tension-busting techniques or rewarding relationship. Laying each step out in a single page spread, these self-help courses also seek to address a constant and recognised stumbling block for such publications ? waning focus and commitment from the reader.
The Get A Life! books are Bone Idle to Body Idol by Cornel Chin; Drab to Fab by Isabelle Perrett and Yvonne Johnson; Moody to Mellow by Stephen Palmer and Christine Wilding; and Single to Settled by Elizabeth Clark.
The Get A Life! authors have heard every excuse in the book that people come up with to lapse or drop out from their initial commitment to a goal. To help motivate readers and keep them on the right track the authors have written top tip text messages which are tailored to each stage in an individual?s programme. Top personal trainer to the celebrities, Cornel Chin says ? Want a new gleaming, shiny car? Go do some wax on and wax off. Ur arms & shoulders will look & feel great & so will ur car.? Image consultants Isabelle Perrett and Yvonne Johnson advise ?Focus on good posture. Imagine a string pulling u thru the top of ur head. Walk straight & u?ll look 7lb lighter & add inches 2 ur height .?; Flirt guru Elizabeth Clark says ?Smile warmly, be positive & men will be tripping over their jaws 2 speak 2 u.? Stress busters Stephen Palmer and Christine Wilding say ?Laugh! Not only does it help u to de-stress and relax, it boosts circulation as well as aerobic exercise and releases feel-good endorphins. ?
These motivational messages are optional via text to reader?s mobile phones, a process that is managed for Hodder Education by Telecom Express. The text messages come in ?packs? of ten, priced at ?1.50 per pack, for which the reader signs up as and when they want. Double opt-in techniques are used to confirm each text pack purchase. Readers are also given the option to stop their text messages every 10 days, and can also re-start each text pack if their course is interrupted for any reason.
Katie Roden, Director, Consumer Education Division, Hodder Education, comments, ?How many of us have taken up a New Year?s resolution with every best intention, only to fall at the first fence? This ground breaking new combination of book and SMS motivational messaging is set to keep all our readers on course as they seek to change their lives for the better. Expect to see much more of this exciting combination of traditional and modern media as we go through 2006.?
