every culture found around the world. As times change and cross-cultural marriages take place
every other day; the need to blend cultural practices and beliefs into the wedding ceremony has
likewise increased. Here are a few ways to blend ethnic flavors into your wedding celebration.



Most of the African and Asian ethnic weddings are celebrated in two-steps. A cultural
wedding often precedes the religious ceremony. This is particularly workable in the
case of a cross-cultural wedding. In essence, it allows couples to have two wedding
ceremonies.



Choose traditional attire for the wedding. Several couples are opting to adorn ethnic-
inspired outfits, as opposed to traditional black-tie ensembles.



Special traditions such as jumping over a broom or tying the bride and groom’s hands can
be used to symbolize the couple’s union. Releasing doves, tasting elements of marriage
(lemon, vinegar, cayenne pepper and honey) and libation ceremonies are some of the
other traditions that can be incorporated into a wedding celebration.

Adding ethnic influences to the wedding reception

It is easier to add ethnic influences to the reception of a wedding celebration.



An ethnic theme can be chosen for the wedding reception. Hawaiian and Chinese
influenced themes are popularly chosen by a number of couples because of their colorful
nature. Couples can however go for themes that reflect their ethnic roots and cultures.



Ethnic cuisines can be incorporated into the menu for the wedding celebration. The
chosen cuisine can be tied to the theme chosen for the wedding. For instance, a wedding
with a tropical beach theme can include exotic fruits and seafood cuisines in the menu.



Music is also another simple way to infuse ethnic traditions to a wedding reception. The

couple may choose to have traditional dancers perform at their reception or simply have a
DJ play ethnic music of their choice.
