‘Notice of Appeal to Supreme Court on Wednesday 19th April, in Hill of Tara /
M3 Case.’

Notice of Appeal to the Supreme Court in the case of Vincent Salafia
–v- Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government; the
Attorney General, Meath County Council and the Natonal Roads Authority
will be offically given to the parties by Mr Salafia on Wednesday, 19th
April 2006.

Meanwhile, TaraWatch, a group supporting Mr Salafia’s case, will
continue to lobby the Government over the Easter weekend to halt work
in the Tara Skryne Valley on all archaeological sites. While TaraWatch
maintains that all monuments in the valley are part of the national
monument of Tara, by association, two newly discovered monuments at
Collierstown and Barronstown are discrete national monuments in their
own right, and should be protected. Images available at

TaraWatch are organizing an alternative Easter Sunday on the Hill of
Tara on Easter Sunday, in recognition of the Christian importance of
the Hill of Tara. taraWatch members will hand out information all day
and host a talk at the Lia Fail at 2.00pm.

It was on Tara that Saint Patrick first confronted the druids, after he
lit the Paschal Fire. Tara is traditionally seen as the birthplace of
popular Christianity in Ireland, and even Europe. Meath County Council
had invited Pope John Paul II to attend the Easter ceremonies on Tara
last year, before his unfortunate passing. Protests will also take
place in Dublin over the Easter weekend.

Mr Salafia said:

“This matter should never have gone to court. But just because there is
an ongoing case does not mean that this issue is no longer in the
public domain. The Taoiseach and the Minister cannot shirk their
responsibility to the people and heritage of Ireland by saying that it
is out of their hands now.

“70% of people surveyed last year wanted the M3 moved away from Tara.
We want to give those people an opportunity to express that opinion
loudly and clearly. (see http://www.hilloftara.info/downloads.html)

“Many find the contrived 1916 events in Dublin over this Easter Weekend
to be obnoxious and hypocritical, since this Government is only paying
lip service to this nation's proud heritage. We hope they can find a
satisfying way of revering the past and embracing the future at Tara
this Sunday"
