Stratton Faxon Represents Patients Injured by Cox Inhibitors

Added: (Mon Dec 28 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Stratton Faxon represents families adversely affected by Cox-2 inhibitor drugs used to treat arthritis pain. These drugs have been shown to cause severe and even fatal side effects.

Under an umbrella of malpractice cases, Stratton Faxon, Connecticut’s firm for trial law, has continued to represent families who have been adversely affected by Cox-2 inhibitor drugs popularly used to treat arthritis pain. “We currently represent over 250 families who have suffered injury due to Vioxx, Bextra, and Celebrex—defective Cox-2 inhibitor drugs used to treat arthritis pain,” says Joel Faxon, “ This class of drugs has been shown to have dangerous side effects and can be linked to serious health problems such as clotting, heart attack, and stroke.“

While every prescription drug is unsafe, according to liability-minded statements issued in recent years by the FDA, some are even dangerous. While every drug marketed in the United States has unintended side effects, research conducted as early as 2004 discovered that Cox-2 inhibitor drugs (Vioxx, Bextra, Celebrex) cause dangerous side effects that result in sudden death, heart attacks, and strokes. Studies have revealed that this is probably due to the Cox-2 enzyme creating protective fatty acids in the body. By blocking this enzyme with drugs, patients are left without these protective fatty acids. “Without those fatty acids, the risk of a heart attack or another cardiovascular event increases exponentially,” Faxon explains.

“It would have been better if this information was known before Cox-2 inhibitors were prescribed to tens of millions of Americans and people around the world. But sometimes manufacturers like Merck choose to make different choices,” concludes Faxon.

The Cox-2 inhibitors are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to troublesome drugs with potentially adverse contraindications and side effects. In addition to Vioxx, Bextra, and Celebrex, Stratton Faxon is actively reviewing cases involving: Avandia®, Chantix®, Duragesic® (Fentanyl) Patches, Fosamax®, Heparin, Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), Levaquin®, Ortho Evra, NuvaRing®, Paxil®, Reglan®, Seroquel®, Shoulder Pain Pumps Trasylol®, certain appetite depressants, and gadolinium-based dye used in MRIs.

These drugs are capable of causing a potpourri of medical complications affecting every system in the body. For instance, Heparin has been linked to excessive bleeding and fatal strokes related to so-called “brain bleeds.” Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can cause certain forms of cancer, among several less serious conditions.
