Pre nuptial agreements are on the increase

Added: (Tue Nov 25 2003)

Pressbox (Press Release) - The use of pre nuptial agreements is on the increase according to online family law website www.divorce-online.co.uk .

The company, which provides the pre marital contracts online, launched the pre nuptial agreement service in 2002 but has seen a dramatic increase in their use over the 2003 period.

Sales of pre nuptial agreements rose by 177% during the 1st 9 months of 2003 compared with the same period in 2002.

The website puts the increase down to an increase in awareness of the use of the agreements by the general public following some pretty high profile couples resorting to their use such as in the Tom Cruise/ Nicole Kidman divorce and before the Katherine Zeta Jones/Michael Douglas Wedding.

The agreements have recently received a boost in England following the case of K-V-K which was reported earlier in the year I which an agreement was upheld by an English court.

While pre-nuptial agreements may not be right for everyone, they may be attractive to particular groups. For couples embarking on second (or subsequent) marriages, or for couples from differing jurisdictions, pre-nuptial agreements may be a sensible choice to allow them to regulate their own affairs. The judgement in K v K has provided a useful template and given clear guidance, which could enable this to be done.
