National Will Week receives MP's Support

National Will Week is an initiative dedicated to raising awareness of the benefits of making a Will. National Will Week runs from Sunday July 29th to Saturday August 4th and is being organised by Sovereign Will and Probate Services Ltd, the UK's leading provider of Solicitor's in-home Will writing services.

Nick Plumb, Operations Director at Sovereign, explained:

"It is a sad fact that over two thirds of the UK population do not have a valid Will. This means that every year thousands of people die intestate, leaving a legacy of confusion, family upsets, and often financial difficulties for their families. We feel that National Will Week will make more people aware of the benefits of making a Will and encourage them to address this important but often overlooked task."

"Making a Will not only sorts out who will inherit your assets and helps to avoid any confusion or arguments within the family, but it can also help married couples or those in a Civil Partnership to save a significant amount of Inheritance Tax"

Chris Mole, Member of Parliament for Ipswich, has given his support to National Will Week. He said;

"Making a will is something that millions of people put off because it is inconvenient or they do not understand the implications of dying without a Will. I learned a number of years ago of the problems that can be left to a partner if you die without making a will and chose to make mine. I am delighted that Sovereign, a business based in my constituency of Ipswich, are promoting the benefits of making a Will through National Will Week."

Research conducted by Sovereign revealed that the inconvenience of taking time off work to drive into town during business hours to see a Solicitor was one of the biggest factors why so many people have not made a Will.

Plumb explained;

"We felt it was time to change the way Wills are made in the UK. We can buy home improvements, carpets, and life insurance in the comfort and privacy of our own homes at our convenience, so why not make a Will that way too? Through National Will Week, we want to get the message across that you do not have to take time off work to drive into town to make a Will."

"Our research revealed that most people still value good old-fashioned face to face advice when making a Will. For many people, taking the DIY option or making a Will on the internet is just too complicated and fraught with potential pitfalls. We want people to realise that they can actually make a Will in the comfort and privacy of their own home at a time to suit their busy lifestyle."

"If we can convince people that making a Will is not difficult or inconvenient, and that they will still receive the full protection of a Solicitor's practice that is regulated by the Law Society, I think we can make real inroads into the numbers of people who die intestate, leaving problems for their families. That's why we are behind National Will Week."
