Names Changes By Deed Poll Up On Last Year Claim Leading Firm
Added: (Wed Oct 21 2009)
The Legal Deed Service, the leading providers of name changes by Deed Poll in the UK, have launched brand new figures today which demonstrate that the UK is in the midst of a name change frenzy.
With over 30,000 name changes being filed by the firm since January alone, it seems that Brits are favoring a quick identity overhaul despite the economic downturn reducing their disposable income.
Some of the more eccentric name change applications received and accepted so far this year include Marina Jayne Hancock who changed her name to Michael Jackson, Claire Forshaw who became the first woman to change her name to the domain name princess-rainbow.com and three Madonna fanatics who changed their names to ‘to Lianne Madonna Vogue On The Cover Of A Magazine McHale Dawson, Emma Madonna Confessions On A Dance Floor McHale Dawson and ‘Gemma Madonna True Blue Strike A Pose Carroll Mchale Dawson Me Me Mitchell’.
Jamie Jackson, Chief executive of The Legal Deed Service, said, “We anticipated the worst especially as most businesses have been hit hard by the credit crunch, but this year has turned out to be our best yet with a sizable increase in applications since last year.”
Jamie who puts the increase down to a spate of high profile name changes including the name change of Christine Hamilton to ‘Mrs British Battleaxe’ earlier this year as part of the production of their online Deed Poll video, in addition to a request from the producers at Big Brother to change housemates Sophie Reade and Freddie Fishers names to ‘Dogface’ and ‘Halfwit’.
With this in mind, the firm who are the only online providers offering name changes by Deed Poll for as little as £10 for an adult name change are anticipating that by the end of this year they would have changed around 35,000 names especially with the Christmas rush ahead.
Mr Jackson added, “There are many reasons why name changes have increased this year, mainly because people are trying to increase their chances of getting noticed when applying for jobs and we have also had many applications from those who have decided that it is time for a change- it seems that the downturn has effected people in many different ways!”
