Immigration Lawyers Wonder What Led Susan G. Komen to Sever Ties with Planned Parenthood

Added: (Tue Feb 07 2012)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Immigration lawyers are shocked over a recent development and for a change, it has nothing to do with any reaction or outcome to the SOPA and PIPA protests. Susan G. Komen, a leading breast cancer charity organization in the United States has severed its long-standing association with Planned Parenthood and all its affiliates. Even in this recession that never ends, there is some good news to hear once in a while.
Things Change
Planned Parenthood is a leading sexual and reproductive health care provider in the country that has also been spreading awareness and raising their voices in support and against various issues. Both these organizations have been engaged in working for their causes and helping millions of women across the country for many decades now. But they have supported abortion and help woman go through with it, that is controversial at best. So, it is only natural that immigration lawyers, prone to questioning motives and intentions, are wondering what could have caused the rift between these two organizations after all this time? Well, Komen finally decided to take a moral stance.
Susan G. Komen and the Planned Parenthood
According to a spokesperson from Susan G. Komen, a change in their policies – henceforth to not fund organizations that are being investigated by congressional committees – has made them end their relationship with Planned Parenthood. The latter’s funding programs are, incidentally, being reviewed by a committee, a move that was initiated by a conservative Republican who was influenced by, as rumors would have it, anti-abortion groups.
Let there be Light
Breast cancer screening and prevention campaigns constitute about 17% of all services rendered by Planned Parenthood. Susan G. Komen had been advancing funds to the organization, as grants, mainly for these tasks. The end of the relationship therefore does not augur well for countless thousands of women from low-income groups who rely on Planned Parenthood for their health care needs, unless of the organization finds ways and means to keep these operations going. Where are you at George Soros? In such a scenario, it is natural that immigration lawyers would want to know what prompted Susan G. Komen to take such an action. They now know.
