Fake ID Ring Caught Out in Puerto Rico

Pressbox (Press Release) - Over fifty Puerto Ricans have been arrested in connection with selling fake ID cards to illegal immigrants in the USA. According to the US police this is the largest fake identity fraud racket to get caught in the USA. The fake identity cards were sold as a package for over $2,500 per set. The set included fake driving license, social security numbers and birth certificates. The fake ID documents were sold in Puerto Rico on the black market. US officials think these criminals have been operational for over three years. Although the documents that have been sold are real the way in which they were obtained is fraudulent.

documents had other people working on the ground so to speak with runners, brokers and the suppliers of the fake ID documents. The gang talked in a code when referring to a customer, they used clothes size when referring to the age of the customer and skirt or pants to determine the sex of the customer.
The fake ID cards were sent to customers in over fifteen states via express delivery including Ohio, Florida and Texas. If the customer was unhappy with their fake ID then the gang would offer to exchange the fake ID documents. This just proves how much money these people were earning for selling the fake identities.

The fake identity documents had been sold mainly by the Puerto Ricans who´s identification had been used to create the fake ID. The illegal immigrants are then using these fake documents to obtain other documents including fake passports. The Puerto Ricans become involved with fake ID fraud as they are US citizens but often have Hispanic surnames. Over the years thousands of Puerto Ricans have been involved in identity theft. This was due to the government failing to store the copies of their birth certificates securely. The government has issued new birth certificates with a number of security features but it is not yet known of these new certificates have made any difference.

Another investigation has seen another 20 arrests providing a very successful investigation for the police officers involved. So far 61 people have been arrested; the police are still looking for 9 more suspects but are very confident they will find them very soon.
