Survey finds Christmas and divorce go hand in hand
Christmas is always considered to be a stressful time of year and this has traditionally been reflected in the number of divorces filed in the courts after the Christmas period is over.
A survey by online divorce service www.divorce-online.co.uk carried out during the 1st 2 weeks of December 2003 seems to confirm the evidence that Christmas has an effect on couples decision to divorce.
The survey asked whether people believed Christmas had an effect on the decision to divorce in their family. Of the 500 respondents’ to the survey, 57.3% said that it had had an effect, 29.5% said it had not and the remainder did not know.
Mark Keenan from Divorce-Online says that relationships that are already in trouble are likely to falter during the Christmas break, and that the decision to separate is taken during the festive break, with many couples then launching their divorce petitions 2 years later in the January-March period which is the busiest period of the year for online divorce and from experience, divorce generally.
