Carlisle Law Firm Secures NDA Contract
Added: (Fri Nov 10 2006)
A Carlisle law firm has secured a prestigious, two-year contract with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).
Burnetts was awarded the contract to provide legal services following a competitive tender process. The firm, which is the largest in Cumbria, will provide advice in specific fields including property and planning; employment; company commercial; dispute resolution and intellectual property.
Partner, John Noctor will lead the team of lawyers providing advice to the NDA. He said, “I am delighted with this appointment. The NDA is a prestigious client and working for them will give us opportunities to be involved with interesting and complex legal projects, as well opening doors with other public sector clients. The NDA is also keen to help us develop new expertise specific to the nuclear industry. Our staff may have the chance to work alongside lawyers in London and elsewhere, in order to acquire new skills to bring back to Cumbria – Burnetts will be an exciting place to work.”
Fiona Hammond, Legal Director for the NDA said, “Burnetts were successful in securing this contract after a very rigorous tendering process. The nuclear industry has a key role in the economy of Cumbria and Burnetts will be an important part of a network of law firms that we will be working with.”
Burnetts already provides legal advice to some of Cumbria’s biggest public sector organisations like Allerdale Borough Council, the University of Central Lancashire, St Martin’s College and Cumbria Institute of the Arts. At the end of 2005, Burnetts was rated as one of the UK’s top legal firms in the further education sector.
