CHAMBERS REVIEW heading for TOBACCO SMUGGLING COMPNSATION CLAIMS
Added: (Tue Oct 13 2009)
Human Rights Campaigner MILTON FIRMAN is leading a campaign for speedy action to clear up the mess left by the case of CHAMBERS. This case disclosed the fact that the wrong law (and Old Regulations) had been applied when imposing financial penalties for tobacco smuggling.
Firman says:
"Though a Defendant might have been convicted, he has been sentenced unfairly. As a result he may well have a claim for compensation worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. Only the person who imported the cigarettes should have been fined for the lost duty and not anyone else. This is a shambles and the authorities need to quickly identify all those affected."
Any one who has been ordered to pay a financial penalty in these circumstances (or faced a custodial sentence for non-payment) should contact Mr Firman on
