STUDENT’S NEW WEBSITE PAYING FOR HIS MASTER’S DEGREE
Just prior to starting his final year of honours at the state's top university, Dave Philips a 20 year old Perth student, decided to create getmetoamerica.com - a website which aims at raising the money he needs to complete his Master's degree in the United States.
With Master's degrees in America starting around $24,000 per year, Philips knew that any financial assistance would be extremely helpful. "I'd love to be able to work full-time because it would make things much easier, but I have classes and writing my thesis requires hours and hours of time," he explained. "$24,000 is a lot of money for a student and even if I can raise enough to pay for my ticket, at least that will be one less thing to worry about."
Philips is raising the money primarily by selling advertising boxes on his site to companies. He also uses the website to promote items he sells on ebay. Visitors can also donate if they are intent on helping him.
Having purchased the website domain in mid January, it took him a mere six days to make back double what he'd paid for the site. A month after it's creation, the site has already pulled in over $250 and it seems that he is well on his way that Master's degree.
"The response has been great and on average I'm selling around one box per day at the moment so if it keeps going that way, it will pay for my ticket to America and I'll be very happy with that," said Philips.
