While clearly a for profit organization, Smart Brand of Portland has decided to utilize an often overlooked human resource as project coordinators for corporate web design and development. The core group of directors are all Portland based web designers, but 1/3 of all job fulfillment is purposely contracted to physically challenged computer and graphics artist. Smart brand gives them the opportunity to not only work at home but to better their own economic standing given many times the increased cost of medical equipment.
Managing Director Ronald Pugh states that “the vast majority of our clients have no idea that their project manager may be disabled. We aren’t looking for sympathy, we absolutely believe we compete on a world class level with some the best design companies in the world. What makes us special is that our resources are worldwide compared to a company that has several local people working for them “.
Smart Brand has begun an aggressive campaign to search out talented individuals who may be disabled but have skill sets associated with computers and internet related technologies. Resumes are accepted here : resumes@smartbrand.org. The internet creates an incredible opportunity for disabled individuals that did not exist 30 years ago and it’s nice to know that private industry still invests in community and health related issues.
A Smart Brand clearly communicates the distinct personality of a business entity. A Smart Brand is one that is in line with a companies unique ability and differentiates that company in the mind of their customers from competitors. Brands may come and brands may go and are all truly subjective, but a true successful brand is one that translates into a profitable enterprise for both a company and it’s employees.
