NEW & UNIQUE WEBSITES FOR THE GREEK CYPRIOT DIASPORA

British born Greek Cypriots, husband and wife team - Christakis and Evdokia Nicola, are proud to announce the launch of two new and unique websites, thecypriot.com, an English language community website targeting Greek Cypriots around the world and thecypriotstore.com, an online store for the Greek Cypriot Diaspora.

Christakis Nicola comments “Both Evdokia and I were born and raised in England and are proud of our ancestry and being Cypriot. When using the internet to search for information about Cyprus and our community it quickly became apparent that no one offered an English language website which specifically catered for Greek Cypriots on a global level. For this reason we began a one and a half year research and development project and are now delighted to be launching thecypriot.com brand.”

The aim of thecypriot.com is to inform, entertain and bring together Greek Cypriots from around the world. The site is a unique destination for English speaking Greek Cypriots to come together to find local, national and global information which is relevant to them. Visitors will be able to find a wide range of information including the latest news from Cyprus, community events, articles on lifestyle and entertainment covering music, cookery, religion, travel, literature and much more.

Evdokia Nicola adds, “We want to connect Cypriots around the world and aim to do this through the facilities which we offer to members free of charge. This includes the social networking platform where a member can create their own profile, post photos and send messages to other members. Members can interact on the forum and upload their photos of Cyprus to the communal gallery which will display a collection of both historical and modern day images of all the villages of Cyprus. thecypriot.com members will also be able to post comments on many of the articles on the website, allowing them to share opinions on a wide range of topics relating to Cyprus and our community.”

“We have also created a facility for organisations such as charities, schools, committees, clubs and churches where they can create their own profile to promote the work they do. They will be able to update visitors to the site via the blog facility, an internet diary, which is also open to comment by members, continues Christakis.”

The sister website of thecypriot.com is thecypriotstore.com, which is an online store designed to take the hassle out of shopping for products which appeal to the Greek Cypriot Diaspora and those interested in Cyprus. It features a product offering which cannot usually be found in one place - hence the name ‘The one stop shop for the Greek Cypriot Diaspora’.

Visitors to the website will have access to a myriad of merchandise relating to Cyprus, its history, culture and cuisine. Products include Greek educational toys & books, Cyprus football team merchandise for teams such as Anorthosis, Apoel & Omonoia, unique silver leaf Byzantine icons which currently cannot be found anywhere else in the UK, Greek music cds, books on Cyprus and Greece, Christian jewellery, backgammon sets, Greek board games and a selection of DVDs, all of which can be delivered to your doorstep.

Evdokia adds, “Not only did we want to offer something that cannot usually be found in one place, but we also want to reward our customers and so we have created a generous loyalty scheme.”

Christakis continues, “We have been working on the ventures for over a year and a half, developing the offering so that we can provide the English speaking Diaspora with something unique. We are very excited that these two projects are finally complete and available to the community. We have already received some very positive feedback and we hope that Greek Cypriots all over the world will enjoy using both of the websites. We have plans to develop thecypriot.com brand and will soon be launching other websites, so watch this space!”
