Human Help for the Hi-Tech Shopper

--BEGINS--

Internet shoppers can now get help online from a forum made up of both retailers and other shoppers.

The forum, called ShopGossip, is intended to help shoppers find the more obscure items on the Internet, as well as allowing them to exchange tips on where the bargains are.

The service has been launched by shopping directory UKShopSearch, and is accessible through their web site, or via an email client.

UKShopSearch founder, Dan Winchester, said:

"We developed ShopGossip because our shopping directory and search engine were failing a proportion of our users.

These shoppers wanted one of two things. They either wanted to reach a range of retailers easily with a particular query, or they wanted independent advice from other shoppers who had experience of a buying decision they were about to make.

ShopGossip pulls together a panel of shoppers and retailing professionals into one big email list. The technology is simple, but the human element is what makes it effective.

During trials in the first half of December, questions fielded by genuine shoppers and answered by the forum included, 'Where can I buy engraved sports trophies?' and 'Where can I find discount DVD players?'."

UKShopSearch is inviting anyone with an interest to get involved in ShopGossip, including shoppers, and representatives from retailers and other shopping directories.

--NOTES--

UKShopSearch is a directory of UK-based online stores. It was established in September 1999.

The directory's most notable feature is that it emails every shop it lists and monitors the response. Shops that fail to respond have this indicated with their listing, and the worst are displayed on the homepage.
