Getting your head round ‘unlimited’ broadband - Broadband Genie advises

Added: (Sat Sep 20 2008)

Pressbox (Press Release) - This week it was announced that Sky Broadband would be removing the ‘Fair Usage Policy’ from its Max Broadband package in order to allow customers to use the service without any restriction caps.

The Max subscription is Sky’s top-end unbundled package, costing £10 extra per month when added on to the customer’s existing satellite TV service. With broadband speeds of up to 16Mbps, Sky is now confirming that the ‘Max’ product is a “truly unlimited” service.

So why, when a service is advertised as being an ‘unlimited service’ should there be any restriction cap to lift in the first place? Ciaron Dunne, from http://mobile.broadbandgenie.co.uk explains:

“It’s a sad fact that although broadband services often describe their packages as being ‘unlimited’, many actually enforce a fair usage policy to their subscribers, throttling their service if they feel they’ve been too ‘greedy’.”

“Before you sign up to a new broadband service, it’s essential to read the small print (even if the package your interested in is advertised as ‘unlimited’),” advises Ciaron. “Check to see if there’s an asterisk positioned by the word unlimited – that’s the most common place for further instructions”.

If you’re baffled by the choices available to you when researching broadband packages then Broadband Genie should be your first port of call. With a ‘Beginners’ Guide to Broadband’ that explains everything from ‘Broadband Speed’ to ‘Availability’ and ‘Download Caps’ the Broadband Genie help articles are easy to understand and explain the set-up process easy and methodically.

“Although setting up a broadband connection is a relatively simple process there are a few common rules that apply to subscriptions that aren’t always obvious,” warns Ciaron. “These could make the difference between you being happy with your service, or on the phone to your support line. It’s important to understand the ins and outs so you receive the best service and avoid any nasty surprises.”
