Find missing pages and cached copies of web pages

Added: (Mon Jul 23 2007)

Pressbox (Press Release) - While a lot of effort is spent on web site development, search engine optimization (SEO), generating traffic etc., little or no effort is taken to maintain the URLs . External links on a website gets broken over time - a process known as link rot. This can result in lower search engine rankings, poor website reputation, poor user experience and lost business.

Pagefactor is a user contributed database of moved pages and their new locations. Webmasters will find it useful for easy lookup new locations of URLs as they need to constantly update broken URLs on their web site, they can also share any locations that they find themselves with others. A web user can lookup a missing page by entering its URL. With the Pagefactor bookmarklet, which can be added to the browser toolbar, users can access the site with a single click from any web page. Individuals who don't have access to their old web pages or blogs can have their new website information added to Pagefactor, effectively advertising their new websites.

Pagefactor also auto generates links to the caching servers Google and Wayback Machine. So, even if a location is not in the database, it makes it easy to find cached copies of that page. This, of course, can be used to easily lookup for copies of old pages, even for currently active pages.
