23-Sep-09, UK - Bing, the search engine of Microsoft is emerging as a mighty challenger to Google’s dominance over search marketing. Surveys have estimated that in just three months of inception Bing has capture nearly 11 percentage of this market. According to survey done by research firm Nielsen, Bing is now the fastest growing search engine in US. Its popularity in the UK and other European countries is also gaining momentum. However, according to the survey, Google is still the Numero Uno and enjoys 65% of the market share.
Tough the market share for Google is more or less at a consolidated level, the trend that pinches is quarterly growth. Google witnessed only 2.6% growth of market share in last quarter. This percentage is the lowest in last 5 years. The marketing strategy adopted by Microsoft to promote Bing is gaining popularity. Promoted with the tagline “decision engine”, Bing is helping users to make practical choices with their online searches. Nielsen has pointed out the major reason behind Google’s squeezed growth is the outdated “ten blue links” for searches.
Bing is now implementing a number of region specific features to attract more visitors. For UK version, news aspect is being given more importance. In the UK news related searches supersede all other search categories. The UK search market is worth up to $2 billion.
The popularity of Bing is forcing professional SEO companies to bring a change to their age old practices aiming at pleasing Google algorithm. To perform well on Bing, they are giving more priority to submission of press releases, making websites simpler and user-friendly and image optimization.
