Paris, FRANCE - 3 June 2008 – Gastronomy by the Seine is the first annual international festival of gastronomy and gourmet literature, organized by CCN-World and Yachts de France. American New Cuisine will be featured at this historical premiere event, which is designed for food and wine and luxury hospitality professionals. Professional round table discussions, cooking demonstrations, a culinary competition and a gourmet bookstore are among the activities planned for attendees. The festival will be held on the banks of the Seine and aboard the luxurious Yachts de Paris facing Notre-Dame Cathedral and Ile de la Cité from July 4 to July 6, 2008. Its theme is “Innovation, Creativity and Haute Cuisine for All”.

In conjunction with activities to be held on site, Gastronomy by the Seine proposes The “Off” Festival. As part of the festival’s “Off” site events Discover Paris! (www.discoverparis.net) will provide a guided visit to the Monge and Mouffetard markets of Paris’ 5th arrondissement (district) on Sunday, July 6 from 10 AM to 12 noon (cost: 25€ per person). Anyone wanting to experience a taste of local color and cuisine in this historic quarter can attend. The itinerant Monge market supplies locals with their comestibles and flowers three times a week, while the southern end of rue Mouffetard is home to an evolving mix of traditional market vendors, upscale catering establishments and ethnic food purveyors. Everything from organically grown vegetables and ripe, redolent cheeses to baba au limoncello and freshly made baklava is available. Street performers, a 15th century church and a Sunday morning outdoor dance add ambiance to this walking tour.
