PRESS RELEASE
Bliss Women and Children Project Helping Women and Children to Improve Their Lives
A small charity is making a big difference in the lives of women and children in Kaptembwa, Nakuru.
More than 100 women and over 80 children are reaping the benefits of the Bliss Women and Children Project, an initiative that aims to ensure their basic rights are respected.
That means their right to food, their right to shelter, their right to education and their right to employment, amongst others. And in a place like Kaptembwa, this isnt easy. Located just outside Nakuru, the region is at the wrong end of the socio-economic spectrum. There is a high rate of HIV/AIDS infection, a low rate of employment, and thousands of women and children are living through extreme poverty with little hope for the future. The Bliss Women and Children Project aims to help change this.
We accomplish this through a variety of innovative projects:
- Micro credit project  women receive support for their small businesses through this project;
- Baking and handicraft  women receive training in how to bake and make handicrafts, then have a venue in which to practice their skills;
- Education project  more than 40 women and 80 children receive free education;
- HIV/AIDS project  those who are infected/affected receive counseling and care;
- Feeding project  children receive two hot meals per day;
- Free preschool for the local community.
Founded in 2004, the Bliss Women and Children Project is the brainchild of Esther Githaiga, a local woman who sought to help those less fortunate.
The Bliss Women and Children Project is a proud member of the Center for Social Responsibility and Accountability (CESRA) Kenya, a non-profit organization that aims to promote accountability amongst charities and non-profit organizations, while encouraging corporations to become involved in their communities.
