Gleeds work on ‘The Castleford Project’ to feature in new Channel 4’ series

Gleeds, the International Management and Construction Consultancy, is taking part in ‘The Castleford Project’, a collaboration between Channel 4, Wakefield Council, Yorkshire Forward, English Partnerships and the local community. It is an urban regeneration initiative set up in 2003 to identify and develop a group of improvement schemes to the former West Yorkshire mining town. Gleeds were brought in at the early stages of the project to help form part of a management team of regeneration experts and were responsible for establishing cost management procedures and the provision of cost advice for the overall framework of projects to be delivered for the initial phase which will feature in the first programme of the new series.
The project’s progress has been filmed over the past five years and will feature in a major forthcoming Channel 4 series presented by Kevin McCloud, of hit TV show, ‘Grand Designs’. It is the first time a television series has dealt with a community-led regeneration scheme of this kind and will follow the triumphs and tribulations of the process, the reality of the regeneration, and will find out what the locals and experts think of the experience.
When first launched, ‘The Castleford Project’ ran a series of public meetings and events in the town to ask what projects and issues were of concern to the local community as part of their long- term plans for the improvement of the town. The TV series will enable the viewers to see the delivery of a variety of projects across the town, including the design of a new town square, the creation of several new facilities for local children and the design and build of a major new footbridge.
