Leading gate brand saved by North East group

Staffordshire based Cannock Gates (UK) Ltd, which recently went into administration, has sold the goodwill and assets of its gate business to a leading North East manufacturing and distribution operation, The Peart Group, for an undisclosed sum.

The bid to buy Cannock Gates, famous for its large range of high quality wooden and wrought iron gates, was fiercely contested by a number of organisations and came to a conclusion on 29th March 2007.

The acquisition heralds a new beginning for Cannock, which despite a powerful and established brand presence in the market, suffered a series of strategic setbacks; principally the failure of The Garden Factory mail order concept.

“We see a fantastic future for Cannock Gates,” explains Freddie Peart, group managing director of the Peart Group. “We shall be focussing exclusively on the core products and reinforcing Cannock’s position as the largest direct manufacturer of gates in Britain.”

Fortunately almost 50 jobs have been saved at the manufacturing plant located in Cannock, Staffs. “The company has a highly experienced workforce and we are delighted with their immediate support, energy and enthusiasm-,” says Colin Stead of the Peart Group and newly appointed managing director of Cannock Gates.

There is also good news for anxious customers who were collectively set to lose in excess of £150,000 of unfulfilled gate orders which they had paid for prior to the administration. “We can reassure these customers that they shall receive their gates at no additional cost,” explains Colin Stead.

With a current order book of over £300,000 and the backing of its highly focused new management team, Cannock Gates is set for an exciting period of growth in a market place which it has historically always dominated.
