EPHESUS IN TURKEY

This is a short reminder that Ephesus is located in Turkey. It is located one hour's drive from the third biggest city in Turkey-Izmir.
Ephesus was in its time important for the following reasons:
1.It was one of the biggest cities of the Roman Empire with a population of approximately 250.000 in the 1st century AD.
2.It was the capital of Asia-province in the Roman Empire.Therefore it was a very important center of power.
3.It had a very important harbour-the main harbour of Asia Minor-with many ships bringing to/from commercial goods.
4.It functioned as a very important Christian base. St.Paul spent nearly three years at one of his stays here.
5.A very important cult center -The Temple of Artemis- also one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world was here.
6.Ephesus had one of these seven churches of Apocalypse mentioned in the Bible.
Therefore, when in Turkey , every visitor should consider visiting this very well excavated antique city.
