(Warwick, RI, USA) Citing a stagnant economy, a Rhode Island family and one from Colorado are merging to become an item for sale on Ebay. The two families with 8 workers ages 16 to 40 are offering their services for five years at a minimum bid of $1.5 Million.
Jojo Gator and his fiancé Jackie Kidney from Warwick along with Jackie's brother Buddy Foster of Colorado, came up with the idea for their clans to unite and be sold as a private resort staff in a tropical climate. Their main reason for this sale is that neither of them see things getting better any time soon.
"I love Rhode Island geographically." said Gator in an interview with WHJJ's Kevin Willette. "But my business in Rhode Island had to shut down because it was impossible to make it work. My opinion is that economically this state is a mess. It's been a mess for a long time."
Rhode Islanders in this Ebay offering include Helen Rainone (from Deleciosos Deli in Cranston), Jackie Kidney and her daughter Kim (formerly owners of "Jackie's Cleaning" in Colorado), her son Mathew and Jojo Gator and his daughter Samantha.
In Colorado, Buddy Foster, manager of the Econo Lube N' Tune in Broomfield with his girlfriend Kim Kruppa, her son Robby and his daughter Angela are looking forward to the possibilities for this experience as well.
"I've been all over the world," Gator remarked, "I've had records sell millions of copies. I'm content with my life, but while I was chasing my dreams my kids dreams were put on hold."
"We're selling a service." Gator stressed. "It's a service provider agreement...So it's like we're a subcontractor that they'd be contracting for 'x' amount of dollars for 'x' amount of years."
Ebay dropped the auction twice, but "after extensive legal review Ebay is behind it one hundred percent" according to Gator and the auction is back on. The auction is titled '2 Families for Lease' and is categorized as "Specialty Services> Other Services".
