Writer’s Cramp for the Rest of US - A Human Frailty – Not a Brain Abnormality

Pressbox (Press Release) - International Medical Studies Conclude If You Have Writer's Cramp You’re A Head Case

SOUTHAMPTON, PA, USA, Dexterity Technologies Corporation (Dextek) manufacturers of EzGrip® writing instruments has taken a position on a number of medical studies that conclude Writer’s Cramp is a brain abnormality. The medical studies were performed independently in Europe, UK and the US. They all have one theme in common – it’s all in your head. Journalists reporting the studies continue to expand on this premise and articles are appearing with such titles as “Writer’s Cramp May Start in the Brain,” “ Writer’s Cramp in Your Head,” and “Writer’s Cramp – A focal Dystonia.”

While Dystonia may be linked to brain abnormalities as shown in the studies, many more person have cramping due to unreported basic overuse or oversqueezing – otherwise known as repetitive stress injuries (RSI’s). But differentiation isn’t stated or made clear in the articles or studies.

When a student, salesperson, an administrative assistant, an attorney or journalist gets writer’s cramp because they write constantly and instinctively – though counter-intuitively – squeeze too hard, they get everyday writer’s cramp. The not-too-hard non-medical solution is to just plain stop squeezing – sometimes hard to do.

While aware of Dystonia and the medical cause-and-effect being described, Dextek does not believe it should be termed “Writer’s Cramp.” Dystonia or dystonic cramping terms should be used to differentiate it from everyday writer’s cramp. A distinction is needed in the type of cramping and that won’t imply a brain abnormality resulting in persons running to their nearest neurologist or mental health professional.

EzGrip® writing instrument products circumvent cramping triggers. The products do not use the common squeeze-and-push-down method of writing that triggers cramping. And, only one fingertip is used for minimal downward writing pressure. Dextek has compiled data to substantiate its claims through clinical and consumer studies. Many persons using EzGrip products have submitted unsolicited testimonials to the ability of the products to overcome and prevent a wide range of hand difficulties from cramping to arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome – including Dystonia. See: http://www.dextek.com/Testimonials.htm

Instead, Dextek maintains the stated position “The End of Writer’s Cramp – Guaranteed,” when using our products as intended. In fact, Dextek has always carried a disclaimer that differentiates this form of cramping: “* Does not include Focal Dystonia. While EzGrip® can help, it should be evaluated on an individual basis. We have a special holding technique for persons with Dystonia – a major advantage.”

Or, do we now have to go to the extent of expanding our guarantee to read: “The End of Common Ordinary Everyday – Not Dystonia – Writer’s Cramp – Guaranteed.”
For the other 90% of us it’s a human frailty – not a brain abnormality
