Home Healthcare is the hiring of an aide who will assist you, your aging parent, or elderly relative at home. The “care” provided through a Home Care company or service is assistance with the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) which are essentially personal care. These include: bathing, dressing, transferring, feeding and toileting. Additionally, a homecare aide will assist with household tasks (IADLs) such as: cooking, shopping, laundry, transportation to appointments, light housekeeping, companionship and respite time for the primary caregiver. Homecare can either be short term, when recovering from surgery or a fall for example or long term, caring for someone with a serious illness such as Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease or Alzheimer ’s disease and other Dementias. Private duty home care is NOT covered by Medicare. It is paid for either by having a Long Term Care Policy, out of pocket or through a local government subsidy, or Veteran’s benefits (financial & medical criteria apply).
Elderly Homecare, sometimes referred to as Elder Care, provides care and assistance for an aging loved one, mother or father, which makes it possible for them to remain independent, safe and cared for in their own home. An aide can also assist during a hospital stay, rehab or in and Assisted Living or Nursing Home setting. The aide cares for the person where they happen to be.
