VIAGRA- THE AID TO INTROMISSION
Added: (Wed Oct 18 2006)
To ensure that the human race maintained continuity, God inculcated in all living things rational or otherwise the strong desire to indulge in sexual intercourse between partners of the opposite sex. For arousal of the sexual desire foreplay is necessary so that the natural lubrication of the vagina occurs and provides assistance in the erection of the penis.
But the pleasure of a sexual intercourse can only be achieved with the penetration of the penis into the vagina resulting in orgasm and ejaculation. Penetration with the penis is also known as intromission or by the Latin name immissio penis. But can penetration be successful if the penis is not erect or strong enough for insertion.
It would surprise many to know that an estimated 152 million men worldwide are affected by erectile dysfunction (E.D) .E.D. is defined as the consistent inability to attain and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. The cause for E.D could be numerous, cardiovascular disease, psychological factors, diabetes are all contributory factors in E.D. No wonder, it made headlines all over the world, when Pfizer the pharmaceutical giant announced the arrival of Viagra.
Even conservative newspapers did not think twice before putting up the news on its front page. In 1994 Nicholas Terret and Peter Ellis discovered during one of their trials studies of Sidenafil being used as a heart medicine that also helped increase the flow of blood to the penis then allowing some men to reverse erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil citrate, as Viagra is scientifically known, acts by inhibiting an enzyme that blocks the blood supply to the penis. This consequently increases the supply and leads to erection.
Viagra was released in the European market first and accepted almost immediately as the first real easy and quick solution to impotency issues.
Although Viagra has been a boon to all men with E.D. it is advisable that a doctor’s assistance is sought before getting on to the drug. Besides Viagra is not a permanent solution to erectile dysfunction.
