Pressbox (Press Release) -
At a time when many of the country’s manufacturing companies are relocating overseas, orthopaedic implant and instrument manufacturing specialists, JRI, are set to launch a new £6 million world-leading facility.
JRI will unveil a major re-investment in the UK and Sheffield after a 30 year tradition of drawing upon the skills and expertise of the city, when the facility is officially opened by the international cricket star Darren Gough on 14 September 2007.
The launch event will see around 100 attendees, from across the clinical, business and academic world taken on a tour of the cutting-edge facility in Sheffield, with the chance to engage with JRI staff while learning about the creation of the ‘The Furlong HAC Total Hip Replacement’ – the world’s most successful total hip replacement.
Attendees will also hear a life changing story from a patient who has had a Furlong hip replacement fitted; which unlike traditional hip implants is coated with hydroxyapatite, a material which forms a natural bond with the bone – significantly extending the life span
and effectiveness of the implant.
Brian Jones, Managing Director of JRI, said: “The launch of our new manufacturing base in Sheffield is an exciting development for all of us at JRI; with the hope to bring further prosperity and jobs to the city and the UK.
“As we continue to grow, so will our already strong commitment to the Furlong Research Charitable Foundation, a registered charity which JRI’s founder – Ronald Furlong, established in 1989 to support education and research in the field of Orthopaedics.”
