Guildford, 16 February 2010: The BBC has reported today that three hundred Walthamstow residents have complained to Thames Water about their drinking water having a bad smell and taste. Routine tests have not yielded any unusual results. As a precautionary measure, Thames Water has stopped extracting drinking water from the river Lee until it finds the cause of the complaints and has alerted the Drinking Water Inspectorate.

Nick Heane, managing director of Tami 4 Homes (http://www.tami4homes.co.uk), a manufacturer of plumbed-in water filters for the NHS and domestic market that use ultraviolet lamps to kill bacteria without adding chemicals, has congratulated Thames Water on responding so quickly to the issue.

“Our municipal water companies are bound by stringent safety regulations, as a result the UK boasts the highest quality drinking water. Occasionally odours and taste tints can make consumers go back to buying bottled water. London is built on very chalky ground so we would urge residents instead to use a filtration system to reduce limescale and remove chlorine and dissolved compounds that may affect the taste of their water,” says Heane.
