The 2nd ICPM Course to be Held this Coming Summer
Montreal will host the second annual International Course on Pain Medicine, dedicated to providing information on pain and pain management
The event will be held between the 27th and 29th of August, 2010, in Montreal, Canada. This shall mark the second year for the ICPM Course, which aims to provide an overview of the main chronic pain entities, from their pathophysiological mechanisms to the diagnosis and most advanced treatment options available.
The Course will be attended by physicians from Canada, USA, Spain, Portugal, the UK and international countries, who are willing to increase or update their clinical knowledge on pain management.
The ICPM aims at contributing to fill the gap created by the fact that most undergraduate medical courses provide insufficient information on pain, while postgraduate education in pain is scarce and fragmented.
“The objectives, target audience and structure of the ICPM make it unique in the scene of international pain congresses, which are mainly dedicated to the presentation and discussion of basic and clinical studies by pain specialists”, says course Scientific Chairman Jose Castro Lopes, MD, PhD. “On the contrary, the ICPM aspires at providing education on the pain entities that most physicians face in their daily practice”.
The program of the course will include such subjects as Neuropathic pain, Osteoarthritis, Pain in the elderly, Headache, Urogenital pain, Cancer Pain, Fibromyalgia, Pain Management, Neck and low back pain, Pain Management, and Chronic Pain.
“Each session will be dedicated to a topic and will include a comprehensive lecture by a pain specialist, complemented by clinical cases, provided and presented by attending participants, to illustrate the type of challenges posed by ‘real’ patients”, says Lopes. “Ample time will be allocated for interaction with the audience, enhanced by a multimedia multiple-choice quiz on the topic of the session… practical workshops on the evaluation of pain patients will be an important additional feature of the ICPM. These workshops will have a limited number of participants to provide better interaction”.
Set on the beautiful backdrop of Montreal, the course affords the participants with the opportunity for interactive networking amongst colleagues while acquiring valuable and comprehensive knowledge on pain and pain management.
