HERE’S THE STORY:
Huron, OH — The American stigma toward the mentally ill is prolonged by societal ignorance of the problem combined with protracted denial over the widespread occurrence of mental illness. The facts clear. Over 54 million Americans have a mild to severe mental disorder. According to the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report On Mental Health, one in five children have
a diagnosable mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder, while 11.5% of adults age 55 and older meet the criteria for having anxiety disorder.
Why do Americas with mental illness feel the societal pressure to hide their illness? The answer is simple. People with mild to severe forms of mental illness are afraid of what other people—bosses, co-workers, spouses, relatives, and friends—will think of them.
Author, Art Buchanan is determined to make a difference in the way people think about mental illness by fearlessly telling his story about how he dealt with his own self-esteem shattering diagnosis.
Art Buchanan’s new book, Out of Darkness: One Man’s Journey From The Depths Of Mental Illness To Pure Joy reveals how daily bouts with depression, anxiety and other illnessrelated manifestations are conquered.
The book presents the compelling, uplifting and almost unbelievable story of Art Buchanan’s rebound from the precipice of insanity. Out of Darkness simply and subtly works to build a bridge of hope to people facing the
stigma of mental illness and their families as the author discusses the steps he took to regain balance and normalcy.
