Mens Eating Disorders Dramatically Rise

Added: (Fri Feb 02 2007)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Male eating disorders are on the rise and currently vastly overlooked by the mainstream media and therapeutic and medical communities.

In fact, in the last year alone approximately 60% of the eating disorder clients I have seen have been male and have been in relation to bulimia and binge eating.

From changing roles in society, pressure on men to conform to certain standards has increased and the success train is even more important now for people to have status.

Emma James, specialist therapist, Master Practitioner and NLP Trainer said, Women have now had so much attention paid to their needs and recognition, men are now being left behind in a undefined role and being expected to be everything to everyone. This is creating a huge amount of pressure resulting in varied stress related issues becoming more frequent.

For many men, it is very difficult to admit to or even seek help for many varying issues and they certainly would find is almost impossible to discuss personal issues relating to confidence, sexual issues or personal problems within their own peer group.

More recognition and attention must be paid to mens problems and a change within society to be more accepting and receptive to this has to happen.
