Added: (Thu Aug 27 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - A group of volunteers from Kinver have been shortlisted for the inaugural ‘Patients’ Choice – Quality and Excellence’ Awards, organised by South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT).

The 30-strong Moss Grove Surgery Kinver Patient Panel - consisting purely of volunteers - have been put forward for the ‘Public Involvement Award’ category for their work in the community.

The awards take place on September 9 at the Staffordshire County Showground.

Finding out about the nominations this week, Maggie Winters, Vice Chair for the group said: “We were absolutely thrilled to find out that we had been shortlisted for the award.

“We felt that we were doing a good job in making the voice of the patient heard, but this shows a real confidence in our abilities and is just great.

“I think it’s a tribute to all of the members who have worked so hard to make the panel a lively and effective group. We are all so looking forward to the awards evening.”

South Staffordshire PCT launched the Patients’ Choice – Quality and Excellence Awards in April and received nearly 100 nominations from patients and the public in South Staffordshire who had identified quality of care and sheer excellence of service and wanted to recognise this by nominating staff, carers and members of the public who have contributed to health and social care locally.

A panel of judges consisting of five independent representatives selected the shortlist across six categories which will now go forward to the Awards ceremony on September 9 at the Staffordshire County Showground in Stafford.
