Event Benefits Morris Animal Foundation's International Campaign to Prevent, Treat and Cure Cancer

(July 23, 2009, Denver/Estes Park) — One in four dogs will die of cancer. Fortunately, dog lovers in Colorado can learn more about this deadly disease—and help find a cure. The K9K Walk to Cure Canine Cancer on September 19, 2009, will be held in beautiful Estes Park at Stanley Park on the Lake Estes Trail. The event raises money for Morris Animal Foundation's (MAF) Canine Cancer Campaign, whichfunds research into cancer prevention and treatment. The day's events will feature top experts in canine health, oncology and research, and those who can't participate on site are joining a nationwide effort to support canine cancer research by participating in the Virtual K9K. Registration details for both are available at www.CanineK.org/EstesPark.

The Estes Park K9K was inspired by the loss of Emily, a boxer who recently lost her battle with hemangiosarcoma. Patty Henderson, co-owner of Estes Bark and K9K event organizer, decided to honor Emily because her life was taken too soon. Henderson contacted MAF because she, along with Emily's pet parent, Peggy Mitchell, had found the Foundation to be a helpful resource about canine cancer when Emily was diagnosed with the disease. They hope to inspire other pet owners to make a difference in the fight against canine cancer.

Early registration is $25 for adults and $10 for children age 10 and older; those who cannot participate areencouraged to join our Virtual K9K. Walk-day registration is $30 and begins at 8 a.m. The event includes a 4K and exhibits and presentations on cancer prevention, wellness, cancer research and treatment, and how to advocate for your dog's health.
