Hi index lenses

Added: (Sun May 04 2008)

Hi-index lenses for high prescriptions

If you have a high prescription, either long or short sighted, you know the type we mean; those high powered lenses that can make you eyes look huge and magnified or those that make them look tiny. Either way it spoils the look of you and the glasses, makes them heavy and uncomfortable to wear.

I have found when testing eyes in practice that so many patients don’t realise they can have them made thinner! Sadly when we told them they could and then told them the price, they were equally disappointed!

Ciliaryblue can change all that now, as hi-index lenses are now available at such a reasonable price that they will probably only cost the same as your last reglaze with ordinary lenses!

There are many different types of thin lens, glass, plastic and reactions included. The most common are the plastic lenses. Lenses are given an index number, ordinary plastic are 1.50 the next hi-index being 1.60, then 1.67 and finally the thinnest plastic at 1.74. The higher the number the thinner the lens. The higher the prescription the bigger the difference. We have put pictures on our blog at http://www.ciliaryblue.com/spectacle_lenses to show you.

Hi-index lenses are available in single vision, varifocal and bifocal and can have all the usual coatings including tinted too.

So if you want to make your thick lenses look nicer, weigh less then go for hi-index lenses. It really does make a difference.

Ring us on 0845 6262008 or email info@ciliaryblue.com and we will give you as much help as we can. There is lots of information on the website about the different types of lenses including hi-index, if you know what you want order on-line and take advantage of our simple process.
