Pressbox (Press Release) - TEN STEPS TO BEAT STRESS

/SMILE MORE! Did you know it only takes fourteen muscles to smile and seventy two muscles to frown? Smile more and you will increase your self confidence and empowerment ten fold. Better still laugh, research has shown that laughter is one of the best ways to relieve tension. It lowers your blood pressure and boosts your immune system.

/Try to take at least 20 minutes of exercise a day. If you normally drive to the shops or work walk or cycle, if you can’t get to the gym, try going up and down your stairs half a dozen times. If you are angry after a hard days work go to the gym and pump iron. You will get rid of your aggression, get fit, and have less stress.

/Learn to switch off. There are only 24 Hours in a day, you need time to unwind. Learn to say NO and have some quality time to yourself.

/Chill out with a nice soak in a candlelit bath.

/Lay on your bed, breathe deeply through your nose as you listen to some relaxing music, as you drift off you become more relaxed and less stressed.

/Avoid coffee and Tea, these both contain caffeine which acts as a stimulant.

/Drink more water. Most of us do not drink enough water; all of our organs are dependant on water to function properly, including our brain. What happens when you drive a car with no water? It overheats. The same thing happens to us, water is our lubrication when you starve the body of water it performs under par and you get stressed physically and mentally. Your body needs at least 4-8 glasses of water a day to function correctly. Office environments, particularly with air conditioning have a very dry atmosphere which can de-hydrate you.

/Make sure you rest and get enough sleep. When you are overtired you tend to be more irritable and have higher stress levels. Get an early night with a cup of warm milk, there is a chemical in milk that aids sleep.

/Make Love! Nothing unwinds you more, makes you feel good and brings that all important smile to your face than having great sex. It releases endorphins that leave you with that feel good factor.

/Learn to meditate. Meditation is easier than people think, sit in a quiet place, close your eyes and breathe deeply. As thoughts pop into your head just let them, gradually as you become more relaxed they will quieten down, focus your attention on your scalp as you imagine all your muscles relaxing, and letting go of tension. Then gradually continue this exercise down your body, your face, mouth, then your neck, shoulders, chest, tummy, legs to your feet as you continue to breathe deeply. As you visualise yourself being bathed in warm golden light, imagine your muscles going limp releasing all the tension. Practice this exercise daily and you will become a happier, stress free person.
