Fitness Boot Camps set to take over the country

Added: (Thu Mar 02 2006)

Pressbox (Press Release) - London – March 2nd, 2006 – It is this time of year when those New Year Resolutions to get fit are starting to wobble. On the stroke of mid night New Years Eve, everyone swore to get fit and lose weight. So what happened? More than likely you either didn’t see the results you wanted or you got bored.
If you’re fed up with the gym and tired of the treadmills look out for Fitness Boot Camps to pave the way in 2006. The US saw Fitness Boot Camps grow and grow in 2005, including anything from adventure boot camps to bikini boot camps. The US normally leads when it comes to fitness trends and there is no surprise that Britain is set to follow.
The Boot Camp, London’s first fitness boot camp, runs from Lincoln’s Inn Fields Park every month.
“If you’re tired of the gym and need a kick start, or just want to try something fun and different, this is for you” says Gavin Walsh, owner and trainer of The Boot Camp.
This 4 week camp meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Lincoln’s Inn Field’s Park. The activities vary every day, and typically include aerobic exercise, such as jumping jacks and running with resistance exercise such as press ups and squats, plus anything else they can think of to spice things up.
Although the camp is hard work and pushes everyone’s limits, Walsh insists it’s not intimidating. “We focus on each session being fun and varied” he said, “there is no shouting in anyone’s face and no whistle blowing, just lots of encouragement”.
Each camp has a maximum of 10 people and those 10 people stay together for the whole 4 weeks. “This is what makes Boot Camps so good” said Walsh, “it creates huge team spirit and if someone doesn’t show or is late for a session everyone is asking where that person is and then thinking of a forfeit for when they do show!”
Men and women of all ages and abilities participate in the camp, “we have member's over 50 and member's in their 20’s” he said, “people work hard but go at their own pace”. By the end of the 4 weeks, says Walsh, “member’s definately see results”.
