Fertility clinic’s new online referral system to aid GPs

Added: (Thu Oct 02 2008)

Southampton-based Wessex fertility at the Freya Centre is launching a new online referral system aimed at simplifying and speeding up the process for GPs across Hampshire and beyond. The scheme is being made available via the clinic’s new website, launched today, and aims to reduce the administrative burden on GPs and speed up the referral process for patients.

Consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Chantal Simonis commented: “GPs have so much administration and paper work to contend with these days that we felt a new approach to simplifying referrals would help. Most practices increasingly use electronic communications and we felt it was time to bring the referral system up to speed with the latest technology.”

Dr Suzanne Hunter, GP at the Wessex Practice, said: “The new online referral system will make a big difference to GPs and consultants needing to refer patients to the clinic. We will now be able to provide relevant information directly to the clinic without delay, ensuring faster treatment for patients and less administration for us.”

The new website is part of a general overhaul of the clinic’s image, undertaken earlier this year as Dr Simonis and Dr Sue Ingamells became medical directors of the centre, making it the first in the country to be run by an all-female consultant team. “We wanted to take a fresh approach to how we communicate with our patients in an easy-to-navigate, clear structure. Our new website focuses on providing useful information, such as what to look for when choosing a clinic, success rates and dates for open evenings to come and have a look around, as well as the usual treatment and contact information you would expect. Feedback from patients so far has been very positive,” said Dr Ingamells.
