Don’t be Dirty – Use a “CleanKey”

Added: (Tue Sep 16 2008)

Recent activities under the French/Swiss border may have distracted you from the significance of next week; September 22nd marks the start of National Computer Cleaning Week. Devlin Electronics believe the week should bring into the collective consciousness the importance of battling bacteria on the nations keyboards and mice.

Your first reaction to such news maybe somewhat understated but as you gaze down at your keyboard and mouse in particular, do you know what microscopic dangers may be lurking? Could there be a case of E.coli waiting for you? Possibly some MRSA bacteria hoping you’ll hit the wrong key? You might be thinking well even if there is something on my keyboard it probably won’t get me. Unfortunately research by Chicago Northwestern Memorial Hospital suggests that if your keyboard does contain MRSA bacteria 92% of the time it will go on to contaminate your fingers.

Hopefully that will bring you to the considered conclusion that it may be worthwhile giving your keyboard and mouse a clean, rather than letting them become desktop petri dishes. One stumbling block for your good intentions is the inconvenient nature of cleaning a keyboard. You have to close what your doing, shutdown the PC and squeeze under your desk fumbling for the right USB cable. Faced with the challenge of trying to clean those “hard to reach areas” it’s almost impossible to clean every nook and cranny. These almost insurmountable obstacles are the very reason that when you gaze down at your keyboard and mouse millions of bacteria look back at you. What you need is a keyboard and mouse that removes the disruption of stopping and closing what you’re doing and also does away with the crevices bacteria love. The Devlin “CleanKey” keyboard and mouse offer the solution; patented design means there are no traps for dirt and bacteria. The keyboard also maintains touch typing ability. The keyboards clean key which lends its name to the products, is the really clever bit, when pressed it locks the keyboard from the PC meaning it can be cleaned quickly and efficiently without to closing programs or unplug the keyboard. A study by The University College London Hospital showed the importance of this ability to regularly clean computer peripherals, their research suggesting bacteria levels are cut by up to 70% if cleaning occurs every 12 hours.

“It is all too easy to sit down at your desk and work away without thinking about the cleanliness of our surroundings. National Computer Cleaning Week is an opportunity to highlight not only the dangers of dirty equipment but the positive benefits of clean work areas.” commented Martin Baker, Devlin Electronics managing director. “More hygienic workspaces benefit everyone so we hope the Devlin “CleanKey” range can be part of the effort to clean up Britain’s desktops.”
