DVD innovation set to change the face of physiotherapy education

Clinics in Motion launched a new concept in physiotherapy training today at the annual ISCP (Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists) congress in Kilkenny, Ireland. Launched by the Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health, Ms Mary Harney, the conference presented the empirical data to support the use of this new tool in the undergraduate setting with over 90% of users agreeing that the DVD based tool increased their confidence in the application of manual techniques .

The educational solution is aimed at improving the transfer of manual techniques among both qualified and undergraduate physiotherapy students. The new system combines the very latest DVD technology using Clinics in Motion’s new, Multi-Angle Vision© and MANS© (Multi-Access Network Solutions) which allow users to interact with the visual manual techniques like never before. In addition to visual teaching, the system also incorporates the very latest e-learning technology to create an active learning environment, utilising electronic workbooks and online examination.

The product has been developed in association with senior physiotherapists from over 20 universities globally and strongly features physiotherapy presenters from UK universities and UK graduates.

Lead presenter from the study, Karen McCreesh commented, "These initial results are very encouraging in terms of the positive student response to DVD learning. To most tutors and lecturers the increased confidence in practical skills that this tool can provide along with the potential encouragement of peer learning will be most important"

According to David McLean, Clinics in Motion’s founder and MD, “acquiring manual skills is a time consuming process involving one to one tuition and repeated practice. Black and white photos from text books can now be replaced by interactive multi-media teaching, which will have major positive impacts on training time and costs in universities and hospitals worldwide”.
The new concept has already been officially recognised by the ISCP in Ireland and by physiotherapy associations in the UK.
