Town Gateway Floral Markers To Be Improved

Added: (Mon Nov 02 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - As part of an extensive programme of town enhancement projects for 2010, Hailsham In Bloom has set the wheels in motion to improve the recently installed town gateway floral markers at seven road entrances into Hailsham.

Initial designs were finalised last December and the markers were installed in the late spring, although feedback from South & South East in Bloom judges and Hailsham residents since their instalment has highlighted the need to make the structures larger and more impressive to drivers entering the town.

It was confirmed at the last meeting held by the Hailsham In Bloom team that a second tier will be added to the existing markers within the next few months and further marginal planting incorporated where possible.

The entrances into the town that will benefit from the improved markers are South Road, Ersham Road, Hempstead Lane, London Road, Hawks Road, Battle Road and Station Road.

Deputy Town Mayor and Hailsham In Bloom chairman Cllr Jeff Bentley-Astor, said: “We have listened to people's views and ideas and have now allocated money to deliver noticeable improvements to the town entry floral displays in the forthcoming months. The newly improved markers will be a good step in the right direction in terms of offering a warmer welcome to drivers entering the town.”

He added: “I am delighted that my colleagues at the Town Council, working alongside volunteer residents will bring about this major enhancement of the aesthetics of Hailsham.”

Members of the public are invited to discuss this project with councillors at the next Hailsham in Bloom meeting, which will take place at the Fleur de Lys meeting room (town council offices) on Wednesday 11th November at 7.30pm.

If you require further information about sponsorship of the displays or would like to get involved in the ‘Hailsham In Bloom’ project in general, please contact Terry Hall on 841702 (during office hours) or email terry.hall@hailsham-tc.gov.uk.
