Town Crier Available For Hire In Hailsham

Added: (Mon Mar 08 2010)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Looking to hire a Town Crier for your community event?

The holder of the now ancient and honourable civic title of Town Crier is Councillor Geoff Rowe, town and district councillor and former Mayor of Hailsham, who publicises a number of engagements in Hailsham and District throughout the year.

Councillor Rowe, who has recently entered his second year as Town Crier, will look and shout at his very best as he embarks upon another busy season promoting events and activities in the town, including the forthcoming Hailsham Lions Game & Country Fayre in June.

Looking forward to keeping up the tradition of Town Crier in Hailsham, Councillor Rowe said, “There are currently just over 200 town criers in the UK representing towns and cities, communicating in the oldest method available, by word of mouth. People, both young and old, seem to really enjoy their proclamations in full costume and bell, and I am pleased to be able to enhance the image of our market town by undertaking this important duty, kicking-off various community events and acting as ambassador of good will for Hailsham.”

The Town Mayor, Councillor Dr Ian Haffenden said, “In his first year as Town Crier, Councillor Geoff Rowe has dedicated a lot of his time to his role which has included helping with a number of mayoral events and last year’s bonfire night celebrations. I’m sure he will represent the needs of the local community admirably, so we're very fortunate to have him as our Town Crier and loudest citizen!”

The Town Crier is available to 'cry' at many events including official openings of shops and businesses, school and church fetes, local festivals and processions, and various charity events.
