Town Centre Watering Hole To Raise Money For Charity During Official Re-opening

Added: (Thu Oct 01 2009)

A grand opening event and charity party is being held at the George Hotel on Saturday 10th October to raise money for injured British soldiers.

The fun kicks off at 2pm with the official unveiling of the pub’s new frontage sign by the Mayor of Hailsham Cllr Dr Ian Haffenden. This will be followed by a BBQ food feast laid out for all those who attend. As part of the celebrations, live music will take place throughout the day, with performances from Elvis impersonator Sonny Ray and disco in the evening.

All proceeds from food sales will go to the Help For Heroes charity which provides better facilities for wounded British servicemen and women in the UK.

The George Hotel in George Street was taken over by new landlords Andrew and Mandy Boyle in August of this year. According to decorated war veteran Andrew Boyle MBE, The George’s principal aim now is to provide a relaxing, welcoming traditional British pub atmosphere catering to people of all ages.

He said: “We’re pleased with the initial response from our customers since week took over the lease on The George in August. Under its new management, customers can still expect a wide selection of wines and draft beers, and an improved menu of hot food favourites, including our credit crunch busting Family & Senior Citizen’s Meal Deals.”

He added: “I hope lots of people decide to come along to our fundraising afternoon, join in on the fun and raise as much money as possible for the Help for Heroes charity.”

Looking forward to the event, Cllr Haffenden said: “I’m sure Mandy and Drew will agree that the official re-opening of The George has been well worth the wait. With a warm, friendly atmosphere, the pub has already appealed to a lot of people, both residents and visitors to the Town.”

Adds Cllr Haffenden: “It’s an absolute delight to be guest of honour at the grand opening and I wish The George years of success and future growth in Hailsham."
