Pressbox (Press Release) - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

PUBLIC MEETING IN GLOSSOP

Glossop, High Peak, Derbyshire. Saturday 28th August 2004

High Peak Respect has arranged a public meeting in Glossop on Wednesday 8th September at Glossop Town Hall for 7:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

This is your chance to meet the Respect candidates, Gayle Shaw and Michael Aldridge, who stood consistently against the war on Iraq , and now demand that the troops should be brought home. You will be able to raise all the issues that you want them to address, from saving our green spaces to improved public transport.

Tony Blair and his New labour government wasted £6 billion on a war the majority of people in Glossop did not want. Just imagine what could have been done to improve the quality of life in Glossop with a small slice of that money.

Speakers are:-

■ John Rees Respect National Secretary

■ Gayle Shaw Respect candidate for Howard Town by-election

■ Mary Littlefield Secretary of High Peak Against the War

High Peak Respect are looking forward to a lively campaign and hope that people looking for a real alternative in Glossop will respond to their manifesto. Our voices as ordinary people have been ignored in the corridors of power for too long, many people do not vote not because they are apathetic but because they do not feel that anyone represents them. Now there is an alternative.

Photographs of the candidates and of the mass leafletting event held on Saturday 21st August in Glossop are available to be used in any articles. Please e-mail us for copies or further information about the public meeting.
