New Bus Service Launched For Hailsham Residents

Added: (Wed Oct 28 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - People living in the Lansdowne and Gleneagles estates will benefit from a new community bus service as of Friday 4th December, in response to requests made by residents over recent months to provide a much-needed morning service to these areas.

As part of its recent timetable amendments, the Cuckmere Community Bus is expanding its services on route H4, to provide morning services in the two areas every Friday. The new service will run for a trial period only, in order to assess loadings. A second, low floor easy access bus will be used on the new services whenever possible.

Adjustments are also being made to the H1 and H3 services from Monday 30th November, to improve timekeeping.

Copies of the revised timetable will be included as a supplement in the next edition of the Residents’ Newsletter, which will be distributed to households in Hailsham throughout early November.

Bus Organiser Phillip Ayers who recently collected an award from Wealden District Council for Dedicated Service to Wealden Community in relation to his outstanding voluntary work, said: “The Cuckmere Community Bus is delighted by the assistance it has received from the Town Council over the years, and is confident that the improvements to services on route H4 will be much welcomed by the residents of Hailsham to form a more integrated public transport network locally.”

Town Councillor Nick Ellwood said: “Rural buses such as these can be a lifeline for many people living in Hailsham and surrounding villages. I am delighted that, by making the best use of available resources, the Town Council is able to underwrite these essential services."

Volunteers are needed to drive the Cuckmere Community Bus, which currently runs a service Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings in Hailsham. If you are over 25 years of age, able to offer your services and would like more information on volunteer training opportunities, contact Philip Ayres on 01323 870920 or 07718 739673.
